Fukuoka to Busan by ferry: ¥3,500 sale fares on the New Camellia
Camellia Line's New Camellia leaves Hakata Port at 12:30 and reaches Busan Port at 18:30, a 10-minute walk from Busan Station. Book on its own site: on many weekdays the 2nd-class SALE fare is ¥3,500 one way, against a normal web fare of ¥13,500. Add ¥4,900 in fuel surcharge, departure tax and terminal fee.
Check first: SALE fares can't be changed or refunded, and many dates only show ¥6,000 to ¥8,000 Bargain fares or the ¥13,500 web fare (checked Oct 31, 2026 for Nov to Jan). Some days have no sailing.

The details
Camellia Line's ferry New Camellia (ニューかめりあ) is the only regular ferry route between Hakata and Busan, and its own booking site is where the cheap fares are. When checked on October 31, 2026, the 2nd-class SALE fare was ¥3,500 one way on November 12, 18 and 24 and December 3, 9, 15 and 18, with Bargain fares of ¥6,000 to ¥8,000 on many other dates and ¥13,500 as the standard web fare. The fare page lists ¥15,000 as the regular 2nd-class adult one-way fare from October 1, 2026, so the sale price is a big cut.
On top of any fare, sailings from Hakata add a ¥1,400 fuel surcharge, ¥3,000 international tourist tax and a ¥500 terminal fee, ¥4,900 in all. Check-in at Hakata is 10:30 to 11:30, the ship leaves at 12:30 and reaches Busan at 18:30. Busan Port connects to Busan Station by a footbridge, about a 10-minute walk. The return leaves Busan at 20:00 and arrives in Hakata around 7:30 the next morning, so the ship doubles as a night's bed. There's no liquids check like at an airport, and 20 kg of checked baggage costs ¥800.
Catches: SALE fares can't be changed or refunded, some days have no sailing, and temporary or overnight sailings from Hakata don't take checked baggage. The Queen Beetle fast ferry is gone for good: JR Kyushu decided on December 23, 2024 to leave the ship business.
