New arrival? SBI Shinsei no longer opens English accounts in person

SBI Shinsei, long the go-to bank for fresh arrivals, stopped in-person English account openings in mid-July 2026; it's now online plus a mailed form, which takes a week or more. Plan your first-month banking (and salary account) around that.

Check first: Per one new arrival's visit to the Nihombashi branch and the flyer they were handed (Aug 2026). Japanese-language in-person openings weren't covered.
