Renew your visa online now: no card reader or Windows PC needed any more

Japan's online residence application system was simplified: one resident renewed by scanning their My Number card with a phone, filling the form and uploading documents separately, with no card reader, software or emulator, and no half day at immigration.

Check first: Residents with a My Number card. You can't apply online on the last day of your permitted stay (go in person). An older Nov 2025 post described a much harder setup, so it changed recently. Official manual updated Mar 11, 2026; English manual available.
