Stiff neck from desk work? Massage can be covered by health insurance
Residents report paying a few hundred yen per session for neck and shoulder massage under national health insurance at seikotsuin or acupuncture-osteopathy clinics with a nationally licensed anma massage therapist (国家資格), or via an orthopaedic clinic (整形外科) that prescribes it as therapy.
Check first: Residents with Japanese health insurance only. Coverage depends on the clinic and on a stated cause (e.g. desk work); some clinics refuse. One commenter warns neck manipulation can be risky: an orthopaedic clinic is the safer route. The ¥5,000+ comparison is our estimate.
