UK passport? You can stay 6 months in Japan without the nomad visa

British citizens can extend their 90-day visa-free stay to 6 months at an immigration office. One self-employed Brit went to apply for the digital nomad visa and the London embassy told them they didn't need it; the extension took about 90 minutes.

Check first: Single account (Sept 2026), not legal advice. The 6-month extension applies only to a few nationalities (UK and some others), and the embassy officer's view that remote work for a foreign client counts as 'business activity' is contested online. Check with your own embassy.
